A dream for the future
West Coast Safari
My dream is to be liberated from the responsibilities of everyday life into an uninterrupted space of expression. Thus, I wish to travel North America’s West coast. In a truck. Filled with surfboards. Starting up in the Pacific Northwest, I would buy a truck and load it with the essentials for a very extended surf trip. I would drive South through the misty and forested Oregon coast into the redwoods and rolling hills of California and eventually end up somewhere in deserts of Baja. This idea came to me in the waiting room for a dentist appointment Freshman year. I was flipping through a book called Tiny Homes, really just looking at the pictures, when I came across a man who had built a wooden shelter complete with windows and a comfortable bed on the back of his Toyota truck. “Wow, this really would not be that hard to do with a place for surfboards” I thought. That moment manifested itself into a dream. Despite its unfeasibility when put in context with my current life, I greet the butterflies that storm my stomach whenever I think about it. I have had a perfect life. I have faced no real problems in context with the struggles of the rest of the world. Yet, I have also never felt completely free. The idea of traveling by myself with only what I need is thrilling. The trip would allow me to explore both nature and myself through surfing and camping, the two loves of my life. Word Count: 253 |
